Bone China Mugs
70Bone china mugs are popular amongst all ages. They are a great addition to your kitchenware, and wonderful to bring out when you have guests around. Fine chine dates back over 9000 years ago, and it is considered an art form. Bone china mugs are made from bone china. Bone china is a glass like, smooth and non-porous pottery, which is made from bone ash, fine china clay, china stone and kaolin. It’s a really lightweight material. Even though it looks very delicate, it is not a material that chips very easily. The patterns on a bone china mug are very formal, and appealing to the eye. Even if it isn’t, it looks like a very expensive piece of tableware. Bone china mugs not only look elegant, but in recent times there have been many more with a more modern look about them. They can help you create the perfect atmosphere for entertaining whatever crowds you wish. Bone china is also very dishwasher friendly.
Bone China Vs Porcelain
Dinnerware that is made from fine bone china has materials that are very similar to porcelain. The one difference is that it contains bone ash. This means that there is a much more translucent appearance. The ceramic looks a lot clearer, however it is still very durable. Porcelain is generally very ivory in colour, however bone china is whiter in its appearance.
Buying Bone China
The one thing that you really need to consider when you are looking at buying some bone china pieces is the durability of it. Ask whoever you are buying it from how tough the material is, as it can come in different grades, no matter how beautiful it looks if it is broken too easily then it will be a big waste of your money. You must also look out for imitations when you are buying it. It is common that stores use stoneware or simple porcelain to make common items, and label them as fine bone china. It is common to buy mugs that are labelled as fine bone china mugs, or bone china coffee mugs, which simply are not that. However, to the untrained eye, you would never know. These can be a lot more delicate and may not be safe to put in the microwave or the dishwasher. You can tell if it is real if it is translucent, this is a quality of bone china mugs. You can also buy bone china promotional mugs.

Hand Made or Machine Made Bone China
Most of the bone china pieces that you will buy are made by machine these days. There are very few that are handmade. You will find most items coming in a circular shape, this is easier to manufacture, and to create. Items that are in the shape of a square or hexagon are much more expensive because they are much harder to make.

The best porcelain is quite white and translucent, too, but never as translucent as bone china. Because the bone china must be supported during the firing there are limitations to the shape that there are not with porcelain, but the end product is stronger and can therefore be much thinner. Of course, I prefer a thicker mug for a little heat retention.
