Feautures of Safety Glasses
Firstly, safety glasses are not the same as regular eyeglasses. The frames on them are much thicker than normal glasses, you can also get wrap around prescription safety glasses, which provide even more protection. The lenses on safety eyeglasses are also much stronger than in regular glasses so that they can protect your eyes better. There is an institute in America that sets the standard for prescription safety eyeglasses, the ANSI. It states that the lenses in these safety glasses should be very impact resistant and they should be able to pass a drop ball test, which is a ball being dropped onto the lens from a reasonable distance. If it withstands this impact then it can be used in the safety glasses. The frames on these types of glasses are very heat resistant, and they also stop the lens being pushed into the eye of the person that is wearing them. Most of these lenses are made from polycarbonate lenses, which are considerably stronger, more durable and much more impact resistant.
When you are looking at buying a pair of safety eyeglasses you should make sure that they are a good fit. That they don’t just cover your eyes but also the top and the sides so that nothing could ever get in.
Benefits of Safety Eyeglasses
The main benefit of safety glasses is pretty obvious. You will protect your eyes. Safety eye wear enables you to keep small particles of wood and other hazardous objects from getting into your eyes whilst you are working. If that happens you can injure your eye quite severely, you can tear the epithelium of your eye and cause permanent eye damage. Safety glasses are beneficial to people that are welding as well, because they are heat resistant and stop the eyes from being harmed by any sparks or flames. You can prevent chemical splashes, if you work in that area, as this can cause quite a lot of pain and injury to your eyes. As you can see safety glasses are really important and for individualization you should get a pair of prescription safety eyeglasses. If you work in a dangerous environment where your eyes are at risk then this is of the utmost importance and should not be ignored.

A little-known fact--most wrap arounds with rx inserts have a limited range of suitable rx's (-4.0 as a limit). I just spent $300 on glasses I can never used because my -5.0 lenses do not sit flat and cause much distortion.
